POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position installs, repairs, and replaces electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of Moorhead Public Service’s (MPS’) machinery and equipment, to ensure power is supplied to all internal and external clients without disruption.

JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Performs high voltage substation inspections and maintenance on transformers, switches, oil circuit breakers, metalclad switchgear, relays, controls, and meters.
· Installs, replaces, repairs, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical systems in the water plant, generation plant, and other utility locations.
· Installs, replaces, repairs, tests, troubleshoots, and maintains the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA).
· Operates switches and breakers inside substations.
· Assists with the installation and testing of electric meters.
· Maintains boilers in MPS’ Water Treatment Plant.
· Inspects and approves dual-heating installations.
· Attends and participates in job safety and training programs.
· Performs other duties as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience, and training required.

Education
Associate’s degree or equivalent electrician training at a technical or vocational school.

Experience
Up to two (2) years of Master Electrician experience, including entry-level (0) experience.

Trainings, Certificates, Licenses, and Other Requirements
· Master Electrician Class A License.
· Driver’s license valid in the state of Minnesota.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience, and training preferred in order to exceptionally perform all of the functions of this position.

Experience
· Ten (10) years of experience in industrial, residential, and service truck electrical work.
· Three (3) years of Master Electrician experience.

While performing the normal duties of this job, there are related steps, processes, and methods that require this position to recognize clear differences in a variety of situations.

RESPONSIBILITY
Supervision
General supervision is provided while performing the normal duties of this job.
This position exhibits no formal supervisory responsibilities but may coordinate work with other individuals as a team member

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, this position:
· May occasionally climb 50-120 steps, bend/stoop, crouch, squat, crawl, sit, push/pull, lift, carry, finger/enter data/keystroke, feel, smell, use repetitive motions, and drive; frequently balance, kneel, reach above shoulder level, talk,
and hear; and continuously stand and walk.
· Will use close vision, far vision, depth perception, visual acuteness, color vision, and peripheral vision.
· Will use their right hand and left hand for simple handling or grasping, firm handling or grasping, and fine handling or manipulation.
· Will use their right foot and left foot for repetitive motions.

Work Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, this position will experience exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions; exposure to noise, dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, or oils requiring special mitigating precautions or protective gear; work in narrow aisles or passageways; work around moving mechanical parts; work in close quarters;
exposure to extreme heat and cold; work at unguarded heights; work with high voltage; and possible arc flash exposure.

The 2026 wage range is $39.53 to $60.81 per hour. This position is represented by IBEW – union wages and benefits apply.
