The Public School Business Manager is responsible for managing the district’s financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, maintaining general ledgers, and developing and overseeing the school budget. This role ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance through proper use of UFARS codes and established accounting practices. The Business Manager works closely with school leadership to support sound fiscal planning and accountability.
The Business Manager oversees the financial operations of the school or district to ensure sound fiscal management and compliance with state and federal requirements. This role manages budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting functions while supporting school leadership in responsible financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Develop, monitor, and manage the school district budget
Maintain accurate general ledgers and financial records
Ensure proper coding and reporting using UFARS and other required accounting standards
Prepare financial reports for administration, school boards, and state agencies
Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets and policies
Assist with audits and respond to financial inquiries
Collaborate with administrators and staff to support operational and financial needs
Qualifications:
Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience with school finance, public-sector accounting, or UFARS preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Knowledge of financial software and reporting systems
Ability to communicate financial information clearly and professionally
