The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport is recruiting an Operations/Airport Rescue Fire Fighting
(ARFF). Qualifications for the position include:
• Class B Driver’s License with tanker and air brake endorsements
• Emergency Medical Responder certification, ability to pass an ARFF 40 Class within six (6) months of employment
• Emergency Medical Technician certification or ability to pass EMT Certification according to national standards within one (1) year or hire
• Ability to obtain Certified Weather Observer status within 6 months of employment
• 3 years’ experience in operating and maintaining vehicles, light and heavy equipment
• Troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
• Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT Physical
• Ability to pass a Background Check and/or FBI Criminal History Records Check

Pay Range: $30.99-$34.43 per hour.
*Per the Union contract, new employees start at $30.99 per hour and progress to the max wage following
their first year of employment.

Desired Starting Date: Week of October 6, 2025.
Work Hours:
- 8 or 10 hour rotating shifts between the hours of 5 a.m. and 11 p.m.
- 7 days per week and all holidays.

Ten paid holidays in addition to regularly scheduled shift. Two additional "floating" holidays of your choice. Work performed on holidays will be compensated at either the rate of one and one-half or double time the hourly rate depending on the holiday.
Probationary period is 6 months. Vacation and sick leave time is accrued during that time, but vacation is generally not available for use until after probation completed.
Vacation is earned at the rate of 6.66 hours per month (2 weeks per year) for the first 5 years; monthly accrual rate is increased annually per the union contract. Maximum vacation balance is 240 hours.
Sick leave is earned at a rate of 8 hours per month with a maximum accrual of 960 hours.
Operating Engineers Local No. 49 is the current health insurance provider. Coverage takes effect the 1st of the month following the date of hire. It is a composite rate plan (same premium amount for single or family coverage).
Life insurance and long-term disability insurance policy is 100% provided by the employer following a successful completion of the probationary period.
Required by law to be enrolled in the Minnesota Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). The 2025 EMPLOYEE contribution rate is 6.5%. The 2025 EMPLOYER contribution rate is 7.5%.
Payroll is paid bi-weekly and is paid a week late, i.e. pay day would be October 23rd for the period ending October 18th. Direct Deposit into a checking or savings account of your choice is strongly recommended.
Initial employment offer will be subject to background check, drug and alcohol screening, and a physical fitness examination.
