Performs professional legal and advisory services to accomplish effective representation of state, county and county personnel. The required amount of experience will impact the assignment of level (Entry/Intermediate/Senior) along with the complexity of cases and advisory services assigned. The job assignment may be within the Civil or Criminal division, depending on candidate qualifications.

Job qualifications including education, experience, license, certificates, etc.: Minimum Qualifications (Pass/Fail): • graduation from an accredited college of law (must attach transcript) • licensed and admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota within first year of employment. • valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation • successful completion of a criminal background check and Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board check, all contingent upon a job offer • Assistant County Attorney Entry: 0-2 year’s work experience as an attorney, law clerk, or equivalent • Assistant County Attorney Intermediate: 3 year’s work experience as a county attorney, assistant county attorney, full-time prosecutor, public defender OR 3 year’s work experience as an attorney in a governmental entity in civil or governmental/municipal public law (i.e. contracts, data practices, bid law, tax court, child protection, municipal/county board representation) OR Ability to demonstrate equivalent work experience in defined areas • Assistant County Attorney Senior: 6 year’s work experience as a county attorney, assistant county attorney, full-time prosecutor, public defender OR 6 year’s work experience as an attorney in a governmental entity in civil or governmental/municipal public law (i.e. contracts, data practices, bid law, tax court, child protection, municipal/county board representation) OR
Ability to demonstrate equivalent work experience in defined areas Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Assistant County Attorney – Entry Knowledge of: the principles of criminal and civil law and their application; legal research methods; the United States and Minnesota Constitution; trial procedure and the rules of evidence; administrative law
